we've done some awesome stuff
planHQ
Both Oliver and Nik were developers at PlanHQ, and helped them build the next generation of Business Planning software.
PlanHQ is pretty big as far as Web Applications go - about 10,000 lines of well-tested Ruby. It’s also JavaScript intensive, having had the Ben Nolan (a resident JavaScript guru) treatment. Both Oliver and Nik wrote tons of custom JavaScript to power PlanHQ’s advanced functions.
Work at PlanHQ was overseen by Michael Koziarski, a Ruby on Rails core team member, who set people on the right track when starting projects and enforced a high standard of code.
Nik and Oliver have been outstanding members of the PlanHQ crew, over a key year of product development. With continuous daily updates to a live customer environment and 2 major new releases, they’ve managed all aspects of building and maintaining a highly reliable and secure business web application, and have done it in style. — Tim Norton, CEO, PlanHQ
hire things
Nik worked with peer-to-peer lending business Hire Things as part of the first Summer of Code program.
While there, he modernized their product, moving it onto a newer version of Rails. He also wrote location-sensitive browsing and a whole host of upgrades for extra Google-fu. Though his only presence there now is an odd name in ancient SVN revisions, Nik is fondly remembered by the HireThings crew.
ferrynews
Nik took over Ferrynews, a shipping and ferry industry news site, in late 2005. Since then he’s modernized the codebase and design, and Ferrynews are now the web’s leading provider of shipping industry news.
